Joe Thornton is having the time of...the end of...his life! At the end of his rope, Joe tosses a coin to decide his future. When the flip determines that he must kill himself, Joe resolves to complete one final item on his bucket list by travelling to the tiny island of Nantucket where he plans to "accidentally" drown. Over the course of the island summer, Joe finds himself falling for a young woman half his age and befriended by a variety of colorful locals. Eventually, with some help from back home, Joe engages in a high seas showdown with the man who stole his company. Now he must decide if "integrity of the game" truly requires that he follow through with his morbid plan or if instead he has the faith to begin again. Even more importantly, Joe must answer the question "What do you do when the bucket kicks back?"

My Review:

Where to begin?... There are so many things I liked about this book! First of all it is beautifully written the story, the characters the setting basically everything. The main character Joe Thornton drew me in immediately. He is one of those characters you come across that you just have to find out how they fare.He isn't your typical protagonist he deals with some heavy issues. I really liked that the book highlighted some very real situations that people face such as thoughts of suicide, drug use, and loss etc.  It basically isn't your typical story but that's one of the main reasons I liked it so much. I especially enjoyed the infusion of Christian beliefs. I will without a doubt be reading the next book in the series!

Note: I received a review copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not in any way, shape or form influence my review. I liked it so much that I ended up purchasing the Kindle Edition.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars! My Review: I wanted to read this book because I mean hello Dave Holmes wrote it so I was sure it would be filled with nostalgia...which it totally is!!!! The nostalgia is strong with this one!  Boys and girls get ready to be transported back in time with this one! Hats of to Dave Holmes for writing a memoir in such a unique and for the lack of a better word cool way! A memoir in 21 songs is a totally genius concept in my book! The song choices and stories are interwoven gloriously! While reading this book I discovered that Dave Holmes is a pretty funny dude and seems like a pretty cool person! You will like this book if you are a music fan, pop culture fan or a human! Dave presents his stories in a way that I found to be very relatable to anyone who grew up as a human! No spoilers I promise but  Dave shares some pretty cool music related stories! Would I recommend this book?...Absolutely! I mean who doesn't wish they could go back in tim...

This was my first time reading Anne Tyler's work. I really enjoyed this retelling it was a witty, fresh take on a classic! The story ended leaving me wanting a little more which thankfully was delivered in the epilogue! Would I recommend it? Yes! It is a fun, light read, great story and characters!
